As the clock strikes midnight and the confetti falls, we often make resolutions to embrace change,...
Where we like to eat!
Queen of To Do loves to support other small businesses, and there’s no shortage in Austin. We’ve rounded up some of our team’s favorite places around town and wanted to share our recommendations with y’all!
For pizza, we love Via 313 (the Detroit style crust is unique and delish!). If you’re looking for thinner crust NY style pizza check out Home Slice: they started as a small to-go only stand but have two dine-in locations now. If you’re more north, like out by Cedar Park or 183, try Tony C’s (and get the garlic knots – mmm!) Wanting Italian but not pizza? Mandola’s Italian Kitchen has locations all over Austin and fresh tasty pasta.
Looking for something with less carbs and tomatoes? Austin has a plethora of East Asian cuisine all over the city. Ramen Tatsu-Ya serves up a variety of bone broth based ramens (they do have two vegan options); the owners bring a taste of Japan’s soul food to Texas! For higher-end Japanese food, consider Uchiko or Uchi. The head chef, Tyson Cole, is one of few American sushi masters who are highly trained so this meal won’t disappoint. Sushi on a budget is certainly available as well: Sushi Zushi blends Japanese roots with Latin American influences. Kura Sushi is a revolving sushi bar that hails from Japan, all of the restaurant’s food is on a conveyor belt that snakes around to tables. Eat as much or as little as you like, but you do have to pay for anything you pull off the belt!
Looking for Vietnamese, Thai, or Korean food? Don’t worry, you have plenty of options! Oh K-Dog is great for a quick meal, they have a variety of egg toasts (Korean street food sandwiches) and hot dogs (including veg options that are cheese!) For Vietnamese, Saigon Le Vendeur or Le Bleu offer a variety of banh mis, vermicelli dishes, pho, and more. Luv Thai serves up fresh, healthy Thai food for lunch and dinner. The North Lamar District (Lamar and Braker area) has some of the best Asian grocers in the city and has events such as for Chinese Lunar New Year.
Looking for specifically vegan or vegetarian food? Casa de Luz is a wellness community center that serves up three meals that change daily. The food is unprocessed, nutritious, and full of macrobiotic ingredients. Whyld’s Vegan Kitchen, a food truck, has a set menu of delicious vegan options with lots of variety from smoothies to wraps. Mr Natural has been an Austin staple since 1988, and offers fully made from scratch meals all day. Make sure to save room for a concha or empanada! Boudin Creek Cafe is a local women-owned vegetarian/vegan haven with a breakfast served all day (!!), Tex Mex favorites, and an array of teas and coffees. And they pay their employees a fair living wage which we love ❤️
Austin has some amazing food and we really love to eat, what can we say? Just makes us wish there were more than three standard meals in a day!
